Fentanyl Awareness Day

Colorado residents, communities, and organizations have been fighting the fentanyl crisis for years, and the Consortium has been working with them. In 2022, we launched Keep the Party Safe, an innovative fentanyl overdose prevention campaign that relies on harm reduction and public awareness strategies. The campaign is one of several initiatives around Colorado, including activities for National Fentanyl Awareness Day, which is Tuesday, April 29.

What is National Fentanyl Awareness Day?

National Fentanyl Awareness Day, now in its fourth year, is intended to bring together major corporations, community groups, nonprofits, government agencies, schools, campuses, and families to take action to protect young lives from deadly fentanyl and fake prescription pills. The day was begun by the nonprofit Song for Charlie, which you can read about in this story profiling a co-founder, who was attending the Colorado School of Public Health at the time. It is slowly building support on the grassroots level, and several organizations in Colorado participated in informational events in 2023 and 2024.

The Consortium is planning to use National Fentanyl Awareness Day as an opportunity to share the Keep the Party Safe message. For more information, watch this space.
